Dear neighbors,
Yesterday, the House passed our Transportation Budget bill on a bipartisan vote. Included in the budget was a provision I’ve been working on for many years alongside a constituent from our district whose child committed suicide on the Washington Avenue Bridge on the University of Minnesota Campus.
The bill would fund much-needed suicide prevention measures on the bridge, saving lives. I’m glad to report that the funding was accepted in the House version of the bill, and I will continue to advocate for this proposal as we head into negotiations with the Senate and the Governor. You can watch my comments on the House floor here.

Today in the Capitol Rotunda, a display from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention showed the scope of this problem here in Minnesota and served as an important reminder that help is available to those who are struggling. You can find more information and resources here.

Last Friday, on Arbor Day, we distributed Red Oak, White Pine, and Black Cherry saplings on the House Floor, and members took saplings with them as they traveled back to their district for the weekend. I planted mine, and I am looking forward to watching it grow. You can read more about that celebration and watch my comments on the floor in this Bluestem Prairie article.

Today, I met with students visiting the Capitol on a tour with the Minnesota Historical Society. It’s one of the great honors of this job to speak to young people about the work at the Capitol, be accessible to them, and answer their questions. I also held a baby goat during a visit from the Three Rivers Park District, during its day at the Capitol.
