Rep. Ward Encouraging Constituents to Attend Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge’s October 1 Presentation on Adolescent Drug Use

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative John Ward (DFL – Baxter) is encouraging constituents to attend a Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge “Know the Truth” program which will be held at Forestview School on Tuesday October 1 in Baxter. The program is designed to help parents learn and spot the early signs of adolescent drug use. It is being conducted with the cooperation of the Crow Wing County Attorney’s office and Baxter and Brainerd police departments.

The free and open to the public meeting begins at 7 p.m., and will run until approximately 8:15 p.m. A question and answer session will follow.

Assistant County Attorney David Hermerding and police chiefs will discuss the long-term legal aspects of how drug use impacts juveniles and their families as well as recent trends in drug issues impacting our community.

“Drug use ruins lives and can start early with signs that are hard to identify,” said Rep. Ward. “This great presentation will help educate parents on how to spot the signs of adolescent drug use and hopefully prevent a terrible situation from developing. I encourage parents to attend this great event if they can.”

For almost 30 years, Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge has been restoring hope to people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Teen Challenge serves people with a broad spectrum of addiction issues offering effective and affordable shorter-term outpatient and residential licensed treatment programs, along with our distinctive long-term faith-based recovery program.

There are locations in the Twin Cities, Duluth and Brainerd, with a new Rochester location opening soon. The Brainerd center is located on South Sixth Street, and can be reached at 218-833-8777 or mntc.org.
