Congressional leaders are announcing a deal to provide new federal aid to workers and businesses. Minnesota House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler issued the following statement about the news from DC.
“To Mitch McConnell and Republicans in Congress: what took you so long? Republicans found time to confirm a Supreme Court Justice and file dozens of frivolous lawsuits to overturn election results they didn’t like, but it took until the week of Christmas to do the absolute bare minimum for families and small businesses? This new federal package is far too small to get Minnesotans through the final stretch of the pandemic. More robust assistance, including direct aid for state and local governments, is needed to build back better. We know that Mitch McConnell and Republicans in Congress will cry wolf about spending and deficits in the year ahead, but it’s time for people who give truckloads of money to corporations, the rich, and well-connected without a plan to pay for it to shut up.”
