Rep. Ryan Winkler to take part in Minimum Wage Debate at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs

Monday, January 27, 2014

ST. PAUL, MN – On Wednesday, January 29 Representative Ryan Winkler will take part in a debate on the minimum wage at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. As Chair of the Select Committee on Living Wage Jobs, Rep. Winkler has been discussing wages and working conditions with workers across Minnesota over the past year.

“Minnesota’s economy continues to do well overall, but that doesn’t mean that everyone in our economy is doing well.” said Rep. Ryan Winkler (DFL-Golden Valley).  “Talking with workers in these communities has really helped us learn more about what people are facing in the workforce today. I’m excited to be taking part in this discussion. We need to be doing more to support our workers and raising the minimum wage is certainly a step in the right direction.”

Minnesota’s minimum wage is currently $6.15 per hour for large employers and $5.25 per hour for small employers. Rep. Winkler is the Chief Author of a bill that would increase Minnesota’s minimum wage to $9.50 and $8.50 per hour respectively, with a training wage of $8.00 per hour.
