News from Rep. Bob Dettmer 2-1-2016

Monday, February 1, 2016

Dear friends,

Just a quick update as we finish out January.

Stillwater Elementary Schools

I have heard from many families in our community about their concern with the proposed closing of Marine, Withrow, and Oak Park elementary schools. I have made your concerns known to the school board and the superintendent, and requested that they make themselves available to public input, which they have adopted new measures to avoid. Other legislators and I have repeatedly asked that the school board address questions, including what the increase in transportation cost for the students attending Withrow and Marine would be, and how much this would cost if families opted out of Stillwater Schools through open enrollment. Last week three hearings were held at Oak-Land Junior High that allowed parents and community member to voice their concerns. I will be watching what happens in the upcoming school board vote closely, and I hope that the superintendent and school board will have a change of heart.

Cub Scout Visit

This week Cub Scout Pack 487 paid us a visit and the Capitol. It was great chatting with these growing outdoorsmen. I look forward to having the Capitol open back up after the restoration for groups like this visiting Saint Paul.

State Wrestling Tournament

The Minnesota State High School League has selected me to be a referee at the 2016 Minnesota state wrestling tournament on Feb 25th, 26th, and 27th. The team competition takes place on Feb 25th followed by the individual competition on the 26th and 27th. I'm scheduled to officiate on Friday, Feb 26th. Come to the XCEL center and take in all the wrestling action!

Sincerely,

Bob
