Legislative Update from Rep. Bob Dettmer

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Dear Friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July, and are out and about enjoying your summer! Even though the legislative session is concluded, I am still very busy working for our community and state!

First, I am part of a Highway 8 Task Force to help make critically-needed improvements to this stretch of road between Chisago and Forest Lake. The total project will be around $60 million, with some money already having been allocated for pre-work in this year’s bonding bill. The task force recently met with MnDOT and Chisago County to talk about the project, and how we move forward to make improvements, reduce accidents and ease the flow of traffic in our part of the metro.

Additionally, with the infrastructure-heavy bonding bill signed into law by the governor earlier this summer, the improvements along the St. Croix Riverbank in Stillwater, a project which I championed, are also moving forward. So is the process to help build three much-needed veterans homes in Montevideo, Preston and Bemidji.

Overall, I think we’ve accomplished many great things for the people and priorities of Minnesota over the past two years. Minnesotans received the largest tax cut in nearly two decades, saw the largest investment in roads and bridges in state history without a harmful gas tax increase, are seeing another year of premiums remaining steady or going down thanks to Republican-led health care reforms, and there is more money in every classroom statewide.

It is an honor and a privilege to work for you at the Capitol, and I will continue to champion issues important to you and your family!

Additionally, I wanted to note that due to a 60-day post-session rule, this will be my last legislative update until after the election. Please know however, that I will continue to be available to you if you need assistance on a matter of state government. Feel free to call me (651-296-4124) or email me ( at any time. I am here to serve you!

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to seeing many of you around our community!
