Statement from Rep. Paul Anderson re: state economic forecast

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

ST. PAUL – Minnesota Management and Budget on Wednesday issued the state’s February economic forecast and it indicates a $329 million revenue surplus for the biennium ending in June of 2019. That reflects a $517 million improvement on the bottom line since the November forecast. Below is a statement from Rep. Paul Anderson, R-Starbuck, in response.

“The main thing is that the number was a positive number, moving in the right direction,” Anderson said. “It shows that the policies we’re putting in place here in St. Paul are working in terms of growing business and growing revenue for the state and yet, at the same time we had a significant cut in taxes. So, the revenue forecast that came out on Wednesday was good news in the sense that we’re moving in the right direction and have $300-some million dollars of projected surplus money to hopefully work on the new tax bill coming up as we adjust to the federal conformity and work this session here in St. Paul.”
