East Grand Forks Wastewater Infrastructure Project, Campus Improvements for NCTC in House Bonding Bill

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

ST. PAUL—Minnesota House Republicans unveiled an $800 million capital investment bill on Wednesday that prioritizes fixing local roads and bridges, higher education and water infrastructure projects. Included in the legislation are two provisions that benefit East Grand Forks.

The first provision, authored by Representative Deb Kiel (R-Crookston), provides $5.3 million to design and construct wastewater infrastructure improvements to interconnect the wastewater system in East Grand Forks, Minnesota to the wastewater treatment system in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The second provision provides $826,000 for laboratory renovations at Northland Community and Technical College.

"This year's House capital investment bill focuses on vital infrastructure needs statewide, and I am pleased East Grand Forks is included in the list of projects," said Rep. Kiel. "From critical improvements to the wastewater treatment site that allows two cities to share resources to updating college facilities with the latest technology, this House bonding bill will provide meaningful investments for our community."

In all, the bonding proposal includes $227 million for local road and bridge projects, $130 million for water infrastructure projects, and also includes $137 million for Higher Education, with a significant portion of that funding going to asset preservation. The House is expected to vote on the measure this week.
