News Release

REPS. FABIAN AND KIEL WELCOME GOV. WALZ TO NORTHWEST MINN.

St. Paul, MN – Representatives Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, and Deb Kiel, R-Crookston, will welcome Governor Tim Walz to East Grand Forks on Tuesday, where the governor will meet with local officials and farmers to discuss the recent flooding and discuss a request made last week by House Republicans to declare a flood emergency, work with federal agencies to seek Secretarial disaster designations from the United States Department of Agriculture, as well as a Presidential disaster declaration.

“I want to thank Governor Walz for coming to Northwest Minnesota and taking our request for a disaster declaration seriously," said Fabian. “The flooding in our area is having major impacts on this year’s harvest, and the residents of our area need access to the financial help that executive action on this would bring.”

“Local farmers are having a very difficult time with harvest, and a flood emergency declaration would be a huge help to our community deal with the repercussions,” said Kiel. “I’m glad Governor Walz will be able to see firsthand the conditions left behind by this year’s flooding. I welcome the Governor to Northwest Minnesota, and I hope his visit is an informative one.”

Both Representatives Fabian and Kiel are planning to attend the Governor’s meeting and look forward to discussing how the state can support those impacted by the flooding.
