Legislative UpdateWe are down to the final week of session, and frankly, this should have been the home stretch where we finish the people’s business. But instead, Democrats are playing political games, walking away from bipartisan agreements they already signed. These bills weren’t backroom deals. They were negotiated by committee chairs from both parties, approved by leadership, and even passed multiple committees. When Democrats start picking apart one deal, they risk unraveling them all. That’s not how responsible governing works. Let’s not forget: this session started with Democrats skipping work for the first 23 days. Now, with the clock ticking, they’re sabotaging bipartisan progress. Meanwhile, Governor Walz refused to meet with Speaker Demuth until just recently. His delays and disinterest in negotiating in good faith have only made things worse. If Democrats think they can repeat last year’s disaster, a 1,400-page omnibus bill rushed to the floor without time for members to read it, they’ve got another thing coming. Last year they blew an $18 billion surplus, added $10 billion in new taxes, and funneled your hard-earned dollars into fraudulent nonprofits and politically favored NGOs. Let me be clear: we will not roll over. We will not allow more tax hikes, cost shifts, or fraud. I’m here to fight for transparency, accountability, and to ensure that government serves you. A Moment to BreatheAs we battle for integrity at the Capitol, I hope you’re able to enjoy a much-needed break this weekend. Minnesota’s Fishing Opener is a chance to unplug, breathe in the fresh air, and spend quality time with friends and family. And to all the incredible moms across our communities—Happy Mother’s Day! Your strength and love hold our families together. |
