Legislative Update (6-11-19)

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Neighbor,

Now that the 2019 session is behind us, I have been spending time talking with people from our district re-hashing the ins and outs of what took place.

There is a lot to cover and I welcome you to attend a town hall meeting I am co-hosting with area legislators so we can discuss more. Sen. Paul Utke, Rep. John Poston and I will be holding a town hall 6 p.m. Thursday June 20 at the Menahga Post 6206 VFW (17 Aspen Ave. S., Menahga).

We can share our insight on what did and did not happen at the Capitol this year, but I am most interested in hearing what constituents think about the issues as we start preparing for the 2020 session.

In other meeting news, a public hearing will be held June 25 in Brainerd to regarding a proposal to remove the gray wolf from the federal endangered species list. United States Fish and Wildlife Service representatives will be in attendance

The hearing and opportunity to testify will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Franklin Arts Center Auditorium (1001 Kingwood St., Brainerd). Written comments will also be accepted at the hearing.

This is an opportunity for the citizens of Minnesota to weigh in on this issue and I strongly encourage people to take advantage.

In addition to the public hearing, citizens have until July 15 to file online regarding the plan to remove federal protections for wolves across the Great Lakes and other areas where they exist. For more information, or to comment on the plan, click here.

That’s all for now but hope to see you around the district and, as always, your feedback is welcome.
