Dear neighbors,

I hope you, your family, and your friends are doing well. The Minnesota House has been productive and continues to move forward with plans to improve the lives of all Minnesotans. Here’s my latest from the Capitol.

Our Progress

Universal school meals. Driver’s Licenses for All. Restore the Vote. 100% clean energy by 2040. Those are just a handful of the many wins the Minnesota House has ushered into law for our state so far this year. We continue to reach across the aisle to ensure our Republican colleagues have the opportunity to work with us, and many bills have passed the House Floor with bipartisan support.

Here is a sampling of news headlines from the past several months.

Human Services Policy Committee

As Chair of the Human Services Policy Committee, I’m happy many bills that support some of our most marginalized communities in Minnesota are advancing. The vast majority of those bills passed with strong bipartisan support. Our committee has now adjourned for the rest of the 2023 session. In case of unforeseen circumstances, we are still able to meet if necessary.

We are now in the process of putting together our human services budget bill. I am excited to see the great work that will be included and eventually passed into law to ensure our most vulnerable Minnesotans can succeed and thrive.

At the Capitol

I’m glad to have met with advocates from Minnesota Alliance for Volunteer Advancement (MAVA). This year I’m carrying a bill to help MAVA create advancement opportunities for our valuable volunteers.

I’ve introduced a bill to fund the homeless elders program at Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis. We have made great investments to eradicate homelessness in Minnesota this session, and I am happy to carry this legislation to help homeless, isolated, and low-income older adults move into stable housing.

Lastly, I’ve been working on a bill with advocates to provide $20 million in funding over the next two years for our senior nutrition program. Another theme of this year’s legislative session has been to end hunger in Minnesota. As we do that, we must ensure older Minnesotans have access to food.
