Minnesota House Elections Committee passes Democracy for the People Act

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – This morning, the Minnesota House Elections Committee advanced H.F. 3, known as the “Democracy for the People Act,” authored by Rep. Emma Greenman (DFL – Minneapolis). The bill proposes a series of changes to the laws governing voter registration, election administration, election security, and campaign finance and disclosure law.

“Our elections are the foundation of our democracy,” said Representative Mike Freiberg, Chair of the Elections Committee. “Minnesotans deserve free and fair elections without sneaky influence from corporations or dark money. Passing this bill is a huge step towards strengthening voter confidence in our election system, and I’m looking forward to supporting it again when it reaches the House floor.”

The Democracy for the People Act aims to protect and strengthen the freedom to vote, amplify the power of Minnesotans by reducing the influence of dark money and corporations in our politics, and ensure that our democracy is fair, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Minnesotans across the state.

The bill now goes to the House Transportation Committee. Video of the debate and vote can be found on the House Public Information page.
