Legislative Update from Rep. Mike Freiberg

Monday, May 22, 2023

Friends and neighbors,

We spent the weekend on the House Floor, wrapping up our work for this year’s session. Friday evening, we headed outside for a breath of fresh air and a bite to eat from a local food truck before heading back in and passing the Human Services budget bill for the final time.

PEACE

Earlier on Friday, we adopted the Conference Committee Report on the State Government & Elections budget bill and passed it off the Floor for the final time. I’m incredibly proud of the package we put together. It contains several pieces of legislation to lower barriers to voting. By ensuring Minnesotans have the option to take time away from work to vote either during early voting or on Election Day, more Minnesotans will head to the polls, and businesses can avoid election-day staffing strain. We will also be redesigning Minnesota’s state flag, so that our flag can represent our great state as it is in the 21st century.

Thank you to my Vice Chair, Rep. Emma Greenman, and all of the members who served on the Elections committee this session, including my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. We had a lot of tough debates, but Minnesota will be better off for the bipartisan work we accomplished.

Elections

This session, we delivered on dozens of important bills. I am committed to working for the people of Minnesota, and will continue to fight for progress in the years to come. I am confident our work over the past several months will help create a better future for our families. Here’s a quick recap of some of the big things we’ve delivered for Minnesota.
