Legislative Update

Thursday, July 27, 2017

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Here is an update from the Capitol.

Chip A. Imker Memorial Highway

A number of new laws take effect August 1 including the bill I authored to rename a portion of Trunk Highway 65 in Isanti County the Chip A. Imker Memorial Highway. Imker, a Cambridge firefighter, tragically passed away in a training accident in 2011 at the age of 35. He was also a member of the Army National Guard and a volunteer wrestling coach for Cambridge-Isanti High School.

Chip A. Imker was a friend to many and a dedicated public servant in the Cambridge community, and I am pleased that this new law will pay tribute to a hometown hero. It was a privilege to carry this legislation on behalf of his family and friends, and I hope when folks drive down Chip A. Imker Memorial Highway, they remember a man who gave so much to his community.

You can learn more about new laws that take effect in August by reading a press release put together by House Public Information here.

Capitol Grand Opening August 11-13

After several years of work and a more than $300 million investment in restorations, the Minnesota State Capitol is now open to the public.

To commemorate this special occasion and to invite Minnesotans back to the People’s House, there will be an official Grand Opening Celebration held August 11th through August 13th. The celebration will have something for all ages including fireworks, concerts, demonstrations by the artisans that worked on the restoration, behind the scenes tours, and more! Please mark your calendars and plan to celebrate the People’s House this summer!

Some events are ticketed so don’t miss out! For detailed information on the weekend, please visit this website: https://mn.gov/admin/capitol-grand-opening/
