RELEASE: Johnson Supports Veterans Bill

Wednesday, May 11, 2022

St. Paul, MN – The Veterans and Military Affairs Omnibus bill came to the House Floor on Friday only to leave with an almost fully bipartisan vote. At 122-1, the bill passed.

“When legislators come together, good things actually can happen,” Representative Brian Johnson, R-Cambridge, said. “Minnesota's heroes deserve this and more and I am thankful we can give them the support they deserve.”

The bill provides $2.2 million to the Department of Military Affairs and an additional $52,351 to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Of those funds, $26 million will go toward construction and improvements to Veterans Homes in Bemidji, Montevideo and Preston.

The bill will provide bonuses for gold star families and veterans who served following September 11, 2001. As a legislator, Johnson has supported the military and veterans in Minnesota. In 2018, he supported the Republican House measures to get Veterans Homes approved.
