Legislative Update

Friday, January 16, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The first major bill passed off the House Floor this week and will benefit taxpayers across Minnesota. House File 6 conforms the state’s tax code to the federal tax code, accounting for the Bush Tax Cuts extended in 2014.

Fast tracking this legislation means that unlike in previous years, Minnesotans won’t have to file an amended return or wait to file at the last minute to make certain they are receiving their largest possible refund. Playing politics with your hard earned tax dollars isn’t right, and Republicans wanted to make sure this bill passed quickly with bipartisan support.

Some of the items in the bill include additional tax deductions for teachers buying school supplies, for homeowners and for college students.

Minnesotans are already taxed enough, and HF 6 will put more money back in your family’s budget helping middle class families in our community and across the state.

As always, thank you for the privilege of being your state representative. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions on legislation or need assistance on a matter of state government.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Brian
