REP. KRESHA STATEMENT ON CHILD PROTECTION TASK FORCE HIATUS

ST. PAUL, MN – After canceling the planned meeting on May 10th, 2019, the Legislative Task Force on Child Protection announced this week that the meeting scheduled for February 10th of this year had been moved to February 21st. The February 21st meeting will be the first meeting since October 22, 2018, with Representative Ron Kresha, R-Little Falls, as co-chair. Rep. Kresha issued the following statement regarding the latest cancellation.

“With so much work still to do to improve how Minnesota protects our vulnerable kids, it is unfortunate that the Democrats in the House have put this task force on the back burner,” said Kresha. “This task force met regularly when I served as co-chair, but unfortunately over the last year it has not met even once. It's time for House Democrats to prioritize these issues and hold regular meetings of the task force so that it can carry out its mission of improving the child welfare system.”

The Legislative Task Force on Child Protection was established by a large, bipartisan margin in 2015 and met regularly until 2019. Representative Kresha was the chief author of the last major reforms to Minnesota's Child Protection system that stemmed from a task force convened by Governor Dayton.
