Rep. Kresha Highlights Provisions for Rural Minnesota from Special Session

St. Paul, MN — The Minnesota House finalized the state’s full two-year budget during a special session on Monday. Rep. Ron Kresha (R - Little Falls) highlighted that the negotiation process was marked by bipartisan cooperation which produced bills with provisions desired by both parties.

Due to delays during the regular session, the special session became necessary to complete budget work before the new biennium begins on July 1st.

Protecting non-public pupil aid and funding for rural EMS and hospitals were two main goals of House Republicans this session. Educational choice was protected by providing funding for non public schools, reaffirming parental/familial rights. Additionally, rural EMS and hospital services were protected from DFL proposed cuts. These services provide lifesaving care to Minnesotans across the state and the allocated funding comes at a time when many rural providers are sinking under the weight of unfunded mandates and increasing costs.

"We passed legislation that works for all Minnesotans, not just those that live in the cities," said Rep. Kresha. "I am proud of the work that we did to deliver relief and support to our rural schools, small businesses, ambulances, hospitals, and more. As we transition into interim, I know that there is more work to be done, and I look forward to continuing this progress next session."
