Rep. Ron Kresha to Carry Legislation Extending Little Falls Tourism Tax

St. Paul, MN — Rep. Ron Kresha announced he will carry legislation during the 2026 session to extend the City of Little Falls’ existing 0.5 percent restaurant sales tax for tourism purposes. Under draft language, the authorization would continue through July 1, 2056.

The Little Falls City Council recently approved a resolution formally requesting the extension. The current authorization expires on June 30, 2026. The proposal would continue the tax for 30 years with no changes to the rate, structure, administration, or use of proceeds.

“This is not a new tax,” said Rep. Kresha. “This is a continuation of an existing local option that has been in place and dedicated exclusively to tourism promotion. The revenue supports local events, marketing efforts, and the work of the City’s Tourism Commission, all of which help strengthen the local economy.”

Funds generated by the tax are used solely for tourism-related purposes, consistent with prior legislative approval. City leaders have provided supporting documentation, including revenue summaries and letters of support, demonstrating the positive impact the tax has had on the community.

“I am proud to support Little Falls in this request,” Rep. Kresha added. “This extension provides long-term stability for tourism efforts without increasing the tax rate or expanding its use.”

The bill will be formally introduced during the 2026 legislative session.
