News from Representative Petersburg 10-26-2015

Monday, October 26, 2015

Dear Friends,

Last week the Chair of the House Aging and Long-Term Care Committee Rep. Joe Schomacker (R-Luverne) and I visited two area nursing homes in Owatonna and Waseca. Rep. Schomacker has been touring care centers across the state to get feedback from residents and staff about the major changes that were made during the last legislative session. In total it will result in $138 million in new funding for nursing homes by changing the way facilities are reimbursed. There are also new measures aimed at boosting the number of long-term care workers.

There's currently about a 3,000 worker deficit in Minnesota, and with a growing senior population it's important that we grow the long-term care workforce so our aging loved ones can get the care they need.

You can read more about our visits to Koda Living Community in Owatonna in the Owatonna People's Press here and our visit to the Lake Shore inn Nursing Home in Waseca in the Waseca County News by clicking here.

As always, please contact me if you have questions, comments, or concerns. Reach me by email at rep.john.petersburg@house.mn or call my office at 651-296-5368. You can also follow my updates on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RepJohnPetersburg.
