RELEASE: Rep. Baker Helps Introduce Opioid Public Awareness Campaign

Monday, February 13, 2017

ST. PAUL, MN— On Monday, Rep. Dave Baker, R-Willmar, took part in a press conference with Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson, Wisconsin Attorney Brad Schimel, Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo, and Senator Chris Eaton, DFL-Brooklyn Center, to unveil the “Dose Of Reality” public awareness campaign to combat opioid abuse.

Dose of Reality combines a website – doseofreality.mn.gov – a commercial, and other informational resources to raise public awareness of prescription painkiller use, as well as the proper storage and disposal of opioids. The initiative began in Wisconsin – doseofrealitywi.gov – and will now be used in differing degrees by both states.

“The start of this campaign is an important way to raise awareness of prescription painkiller abuse, as well as to provide information on the safe storage and disposal of these dangerous drugs,” said Baker. “I want to thank Attorney General Swanson for the invitation to help unveil this initiative. We’re always looking for ways to raise public awareness on this issue, and end this preventable cause of death.”

The Dose of Reality announcement comes just over a week before the first ever Opioid Awareness Day on the Hill. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 21 starting at 9 a.m. at the Minnesota State Capitol. Those interested in attending are encouraged to contact Rep. Baker at 651-296-6206 or rep.dave.baker@house.mn.
