RELEASE: Rep. Baker Deputy Registrar Reimbursement Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MN – On Wednesday, the Minnesota House concurred with the Senate, approving legislation authored by Rep. Dave Baker, R-Willmar. The bill, HF2835, provides $9 million of aid to deputy registrars to help offset the numerous costs incurred following the rollout of the state’s vehicle licensing system, MNLARS.

“The passage of this bill in both the House and the Senate is great news for registrars impacted by the botched MNLARS rollout,” said Baker. “Registrars around the state have dealt with increasing costs due to staffing of overtime work, slow processing times, and delays caused by MNLARS. This bill will go to help ease some of the pain registrars have faced since this system was introduced in July.”

The bill was approved by bipartisan votes in the House (101-19) and the Senate (46-20). Now passed by the House and the Senate, the bill will go to the governor’s desk for a signature.

“With such strong bipartisan support in the legislature, I hope Governor Dayton will sign this bill into law to provide a helping hand to our hardworking registrars,” said Baker.
