Dear Friends,

I want to invite you to a town hall meeting that I am co-hosting with Senator Andrew Lang tomorrow, April 13th, at Cornerstone Coffee in the Skylark Mall. The event is set to begin at 9:00 AM and will end around 10:30 AM.

This is a great opportunity for folks to come out and hear about what’s been going on in St. Paul and to ask questions of both Senator Lang and myself. The event is free and I encourage you to attend!

Things are really starting to heat up at the Capitol as large omnibus finance bills have made their last committee stops and will be on the House floor in the coming weeks.

I have a number of concerns with not only the policy provisions but also the spending included in these bills. I am looking forward to working the final month of session to try and bringing some common sense and reason to these omnibus bills and to make sure that the needs of rural Minnesota and Kandiyohi County are heard loud and clear.

Most frustrating is the billions in new taxes over the next four years that has been included in House Democrats’ budget. Such a huge increase in taxes is not only harmful for Minnesota families, it is not necessary especially at a time when the state has a $1 billion budget surplus.

Stay tuned as I’ll have more updates as end-of-session negotiations continue into May.

Finally, I want to wish everyone a Happy Easter and Passover season. I hope you are able to spend time with family and loved ones and hopefully eat some good food!

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with your ideas and suggestions for the coming session. I can be reached at rep.dave.baker@house.mn or you can call 320-894-5774.

Have a good weekend,

Dave
