RELEASE: Rep. Dave Baker Outlines Proposed Reopening Timeline for Minnesota Businesses

Monday, February 8, 2021

St. Paul, MN—State Representative Dave Baker, R-Willmar, was joined by representatives from the hospitality industry Monday morning for a news conference outlining a plan that would wind down Governor Walz's Emergency Powers, with an established timeline for reopening, and trigger mechanisms in the event of case spikes to ensure there are clear, predictable, data-driven metrics that determine future closings/reopenings.

“With case counts reaching near record lows, it is time to set the stage and communicate to Minnesotans and businesses that we can begin reopening,” said Rep. Baker. “Businesses need time to plan and leaders need to be empowered to make decisions to ensure our economy can get moving again while we continue to take appropriate measures to protect individuals. This is a commonsense plan and I urge Governor Walz to work with us to implement a reasonable approach to getting Minnesota open again.”

Baker was joined at the news conference by Liz Rammer, President & CEO of Hospitality MN, Michael Asp, Metro Area Restaurant Owner/Operator, Ken Jarka, Hotel Operator, Ben Thuringer of Maddens Resort, Nate and Jess Neil, Owners of Snap Fitness in Spicer,  and others.
