Special Session kicked off today on the 458th day of Governor Walz's emergency powers. During today's floor debate, I voted for the 19th time to end the peacetime emergency.
It's been clear for some time that the emergency phase of the pandemic is over and it's way past time to restore the legislature to its role as a coequal branch of government.
I expect special session to last a few weeks as negotiations continue on the state's two-year budget. Stay tuned for more updates on this as things progress.
