RELEASE: Rep. Baker’s Brady Aune and Joseph Anderson Safety Act Officially Signed into Law

Thursday, May 1, 2025

ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Rep. Dave Baker (R-Willmar), with the Aune and Anderson families, joined Governor Walz in his office as he signed the Brady Aune and Joseph Anderson Safety Act into law.

The law is named in memory of Joseph Anderson and Brady Aune, two young men who tragically lost their lives while working under dangerous and unregulated conditions in the scuba lake weed removal business. Joseph, on just his third day on the job, entered a lake without proper training, supervision, or emergency equipment. Brady, working for a separate company, drowned after being sent into deep water with gear that was improperly fitted and uninspected. In both cases, no one on site had the training to perform life-saving measures.

“Getting this bill signed into law is a powerful reminder of what determined families can accomplish,” said Rep. Baker. “Brady and Joseph’s families took their pain and turned it into purpose, fighting to make sure no other families have to endure the same loss. I’m humbled to have carried this bill on their behalf and proud to see their efforts lead to real change. Brady and Joseph’s names are now etched into state law as a lasting legacy, one that will help save lives and protect workers for years to come.”
