News from Rep. Peggy Bennett 08-21-2015

Friday, August 21, 2015

Dear Friends,

The end of the summer is always a busy time with lots of events across our community. I'm continuing to travel to many cities in District 27A sharing my legislative update and hearing thoughts, feedback, and ideas from people about what was passed in 2015 and what they hope to see next year.

On Tuesday I had a chance to volunteer at the annual Rocking the Block project which helps rehabilitate homes for families in need. It was heartwarming to see so many community members come together on this project and to see everyone putting their various skills and talents to use for a good cause. I was able to do a bit of carpentry work, a skill I learned as a teenager when my family built our home.

Next week I'm looking forward to welcoming members of the House Capital Investment Committee to Riverland Community College for a tour of a proposed bonding project, as well as the House Agriculture Committee who will be touring the REG Biodiesel refinery.

Broadband Grants

Applications for broadband funding are due on September 15th. Cities and counties, as well as certain businesses and non-profits are eligible for these grants which will help bring broadband to unserved and underserved areas particularly in Greater Minnesota. There's more information on eligibility information and how to apply on my House website which you can find here. Please contact my office if you have questions about the broadband grants.

Agriculture in Education Grant

Calling all teachers! National Agriculture in the Classroom is offering five grants for teachers whose classroom projects use agricultural concepts to teacher core subjects. Find more information on their website by clicking here.
