Legislative Update from Rep. Brian Daniels

Friday, February 23, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

Tuesday marked the beginning of the 2018 legislative session. It was nice to catch up with colleagues and get settled in for what's sure to be a busy session. While this year’s session is starting later than usual, we will be tasked with tackling a number of important issues in a short amount of time. These include federal tax conformity, a bonding bill, MNLARS reforms, the opioid crisis, and reforms to address issues with elder abuse in some of our senior care facilities.

All in all, it should be a busy session.

I wanted to pass along information regarding an event being sponsored by The Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council. Their "Be Ready for B20" workshops will be taking place around the state in February and March.

The goal of the workshops is to help the industry prepare for the step up requirement for 20% biodiesel content on May 1st, and to understand the benefits of the fuel and how it will impact fuel providers and end users. Industry leaders and representatives from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Department of Commerce Weights & Measures Division will provide information and answer questions pertaining to the transition to the B20 requirement.

While there is no meeting scheduled for Faribault, there are two meetings taking place within the area that folks may want to attend. Those include:

  • March 5, Mankato, Minn.; Courtyard by Marriott Event Center, 901 Raintree Road; 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; lunch included

  • March 21, Rochester, Minn.; Hampton Inn & Suites, 2870 59th St. NW; 8:30 to 11 a.m.; breakfast included

That’s all for this week’s update. Stay tuned for more information on what’s going on here in St. Paul as the session gets going. Until then, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. I can be reached at 651-296-8237 or via email at rep.brian.daniels@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Brian
