Legislative Update from Rep. Brian Daniels

Friday, April 13, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

The 2018 legislative session has reached the midway-point and I am proud of the work we have accomplished so far this year. A number of important bills have been moving through the legislative process including legislation to reduce the cost of health care, improve school safety, and crucial funding and oversight measures to improve the beleaguered MNLARS system. All in all, it’s been a busy first month and a half.

Nevertheless, there are a number of issues still left unresolved  including federal tax conformity and other local issues.

One such issue that came to the forefront this week relates to proposed fines from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR). The proposed fine would penalize farmers that are out of compliance with Minnesota's buffer laws by up to $500 per foot.

Thankfully, due to focused pressure from farmers, farm groups, and legislators, BWSR and the Governor backed off of the proposed fines.

For all of you that took the time to reach out and share your concerns, thank you. Your voices were heard loud and clear.

That’s all for this week’s update. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me to share any thoughts or concerns you may have about state government or the job I'm doing as your representative. It would be great to talk with you. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-8237 or via email at rep.brian.daniels@house.mn.

Thanks and have a great weekend,

Brian
