Legislative Update from Rep. Brian Daniels

Friday, January 23, 2015

There was a large Faribault contingent at this year’s March for Life Rally. Thanks for visiting and for being a part of the pro-life movement!

Dear Neighbor,

The third week of session is complete and I am excited to share with you some of the things that have been taking place here in St. Paul.

2015 March for Life

The 2015 March for Life was held on the Capitol steps yesterday. It was great to see so many Minnesotans gathered to support the pro-life cause. I am committed to protecting the unborn and will work with my colleagues to see that Minnesota will be a leader in the fight against abortion.

House Republicans Set Legislative Priorities

During the first week of session, House Republicans introduced the session’s first five bills. These initial pieces of legislation will serve as a framework for a statewide discussion on how we approach the problems that matter most to Minnesotans. The priorities include growing better-paying jobs in all regions of the state, giving every child a world-class education, protecting the quality of life for our aging residents in nursing homes and long-term care facilities, refocusing budget dollars towards road and bridge repair, and ensuring quality and fair health care access for all Minnesotans. I look forward to continuing our conversation with Minnesota as the session progresses.

Constituent Meetings

I had the pleasure of meeting with various groups and individuals from our district over the course of the last week. Last Friday, I met with Dr. Annette Parker. Dr. Parker is the president of South Central College in Faribault. Dr. Parker gave me a tour of South Central’s campus where she and I discussed some of the exciting new programs that South Central is offering and how we can work to make college affordable for our students.

Along with meeting Dr. Parker, I was fortunate to meet with Faribault Public Schools superintendent Todd Sesker and discuss ways we can improve the educational experience for all of our young students. Mr. Sesker and all of our teachers in the Faribault schools do an outstanding job preparing our students for college and beyond. I am committed to working hard on finding solutions to the problems facing our education system and working with our local school districts to ensure that every student has the opportunity to gain a world class education.

South Central College president Dr. Annette Parker, gave me a tour of their campus in Faribault last week.

Bill Introductions

I am planning on introducing a bill that will benefit Greater Minnesota’s small businesses. A few other legislators, including myself, are working on the final touches of this bill before we formally introduce it. My office and I will keep you updated as we continue to make progress towards introducing this bill.
