RELEASE: KOZNICK SECURES METRO MOBILITY SERVICE FOR LAKEVILLE IN TRANSPORTATION BILL

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

ST. PAUL, MN—Legislation authored by Rep. Jon Koznick, R-Lakeville, was included in the House Transportation Finance Omnibus bill that would expand Metro Mobility Service to Lakeville, which has paid the transit tax for 10 years despite not receiving the service.

“For Lakeville residents, this has been a case of taxation without mobilization; they’ve paid this tax for a decade without receiving the service here in our community,” Koznick said. “Metro Mobility helps the elderly and disabled get to places around town that many of us take for granted—it’s a valuable service that our neighbors need and are already helping to fund. This is long overdue, and I’m grateful for the support of my colleagues for including my legislation in the Transportation bill.”

Koznick’s legislation also could save between $6 to $10 million, which could fully offset the additional cost of adding Lakeville to the coverage map.

The Transportation Omnibus bill is scheduled to receive its first committee hearing Thursday, and is expected to receive a floor vote in the coming weeks.
