RELEASE: Rep. Koznick Sends Letter to Department of Education Asking for Updated Safety Guidance for Schools

Tuesday, May 4, 2021

ST. PAUL –State Representative Jon Koznick, R-Lakeville, demands the Minnesota Department of Education Commissioner, Dr. Heather Mueller update guidelines that take a more common-sense approach to student contact tracing and quarantines. Updated guidance will give local school districts the ability to educate children more safely, effectively, and to finish the school year in person.

“Having been in frequent communication with families and school leaders in Lakeville, it has become clear that there are serious issues with state’s Safe Learning Plan and the guidelines schools are required to follow,” said Rep. Koznick. “The lack of common-sense in these guidelines is causing significant disruptions in schooling for Lakeville students. With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, we need to make sure schools finish strong, in-person. Updating these guidelines will help make that a reality. If we can plan for hundreds of thousands at a State Fair, then new school updates, with more common sense, like that of other states should be adopted.”

Joining Rep. Koznick on the letter was Senator Zach Duckworth, R-Lakeville.
