Legislative Update - December 29, 2022

Thursday, December 29, 2022
Rep. Pinto

Dear Neighbors:

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! I hope that you and your family are having a peaceful holiday season.

I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve our community again for another term starting this coming Tuesday, January 3. I’m especially excited to begin representing portions of the West End / West Seventh neighborhood of St. Paul – east of 35E and south of St. Clair. (Look below for an early chance to meet!)

At the same time, I’ll sorely miss constituents in the portions of Macalester-Groveland that will now be represented by Rep. Kaohly Her. Please consider signing up for her e-updates; you will be in very good hands.

Chat with Dave - January 7

With the return of in-person legislating, I’m delighted to be able to resume the “Chats with Dave"! Please join me on the afternoon of Saturday, January 7, for an informal conversation about the new session and the policy issues that are on your mind. We’ll meet from 1:00pm to 2:30pm at the Highland Park Community Center, 1978 Ford Parkway. (Note to new constituents; look for an upcoming Chat in the West End / West Seventh area as well!)

Committee Appointments

This term, I’m thrilled to have been appointed to chair the House Children and Families Finance & Policy Committee, with jurisdiction not only over early childhood programs, as in the past, but over a broader set of programs intended to ensure that every child in our state gets off to a great start.

Drawing on my work outside of the Legislature as a prosecutor of gender violence, I’ll also continue to serve on the House Public Safety Finance & Policy Committee, where I’ll continue to lead on reform of the criminal legal system and safety for everyone in our communities, especially from gun violence. Finally, I’ve been appointed to the committees on Taxes and on Ways & Means, which oversees the budget.

Stay Connected

With so much to accomplish, we’re going to be hitting the ground running on January 3. Please keep in touch! The best way to reach me is via email at rep.dave.pinto@house.mn.gov. You can also reach me, including to make an appointment, via my legislative assistant Zehra Khan, at zehra.khan@house.mn.gov.

Note also that House Public Information Services provides a wealth of information, including their Session Daily articles (subscribe to them here), the MyBills bill tracker, and much more.

With an historic budget surplus, Minnesota has the resources to make a real difference in people’s lives, from child care and early learning, to paid family leave, to stable and affordable housing - and so much more. I’m looking forward to a productive 2023 session that helps every person in our state to thrive. #EverybodyIn.

Wishing you a peaceful New Year's weekend,
