Bliss tapped as top House Republican on veterans

Friday, December 2, 2022

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Matt Bliss, R-Pennington, has gained an appointment to serve as the lead Republican on the House Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy Committee for 2022-23.

Bliss, entering his third term in office, has served veterans committees throughout his tenure and held the vice chair post in 2017-18. He was instrumental in obtaining funds to construct a new veterans home in Bemidji. He also personally has led to passage bills supporting veterans by curbing predatory lending, encouraging cities to become Purple Heart entities and providing counseling and homes to those transitioning to civilian life. Legislation Bliss authored to provide funding to assist veterans and first responders with PSTD also was enacted into law this biennium.

“Since Day 1 in the Legislature, veterans have been a major priority of mine,” Bliss said. “I’m meeting with as many veterans groups as I can now to make sure I have their priorities top of mind when we start the new session. I look forward to taking on this new responsibility in the House and am excited to help deliver even more for our veterans in the upcoming biennium.”

The Legislature convenes Jan. 3 to start the 2023 session at the Capitol in St. Paul.
