Legislative Update- March 13, 2019

Wednesday, March 13, 2019
Dear Neighbors,

It seems as though spring has finally arrived! With flood watches circulating the state as the temperatures rise, be sure to check in on road statuses before heading out. You can do so at the FEMA Flood Map Center’s website.

Here’s what we’ve been working on in St. Paul:

Hands-Free Update

The bill to ban handheld devices while driving has cleared all necessary committees and is headed to the House Floor for a full vote! As a co-sponsor of the bill, I’m looking forward to voting ‘green’ on this lifesaving measure.

Addressing Elder Abuse

Our aging parents, grandparents, neighbors and loved ones deserve to live safely and with dignity in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. My colleague Rep. Schultz has introduced an elder care plan, backed by the AARP, to establish protections against abuse, neglect, assault, and other forms of maltreatment in assisted living facilities as well as nursing homes. The proposal has advanced and continues to move through the committee process. I’ll be supporting this long overdue legislation.

Constituents Visit

I had the opportunity to meet with arts advocates from Bloomington this week. They are doing a tremendous job supporting the arts and making sure they are prioritized as a community value.

Stay in Touch

Committees are meeting into the evening to ensure we’re on track for a timely adjournment on May 20.

Please stay in touch to let me know what is important to you and how I can provide assistance.

Thank you for the honor of representing you at the Capitol!

Sincerely,
Andrew Carlson
State Representative
