Rep. Haley Legislative Update

Friday, February 14, 2020

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week, I had a fantastic time at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha meeting with the new CEO Meg Gammage-Tucker and other local officials, who gave me a thorough update on the NEC expansion plans and riverfront revitalization projects that are being supported by the bonding monies we secured in 2018.

It’s an impressive plan that I’m proud to support!

Also, thanks to Karlin for letting me spend some time with my favorite eagle Columbia! What a beautiful and majestic bird!

It was also good to meet with the Lake City Council Monday night. The City had questions about the capital investment bill process, as it is making bonding requests to help pay for riverfront and park projects this year. A comprehensive capital investment proposal will likely be unveiled in the House in the coming weeks.

2020 SESSION BEGINS

Session began on a somber note. During our "opening day" ceremony on the House floor, we honored the three fallen soldiers who died in December following a helicopter crash near Kimball. It was a fitting tribute to those National Guardsmen who gave their lives while serving our community and our nation. We also honored the life of State Representative Diane Loeffler of Minneapolis who also passed away recently.

But as far as the first week of session, we have clearly hit the ground running with floor sessions and committee hearings in full swing. With a projected budget surplus, a capital investment plan and Department of Human Services problems to tackle, this session promises to be busy.
