RELEASE: Koegel Sworn-In as New State Rep. for District 37A

Wednesday, January 4, 2017

St. Paul, Minn. - Yesterday, on the opening day of the 2017 Legislative Session, Rep. Erin Koegel (DFL – Spring Lake Park) took the oath of office to represent District 37A in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Rep. Koegel takes over from former Rep. Jerry Newton who was elected to the Minnesota Senate.

“Since November I’ve been so excited to head to St. Paul and get to work for the people of the state of Minnesota, and now that this day has arrived, it’s even more special,” Rep. Koegel said. “This honor given to me by my constituents is not one I take lightly, and I will look out for their best interests every day at the Capitol.”

Rep. Koegel will represent parts of Coon Rapids, Blaine and Spring Lake Park in the House. Outside the Legislature, she works as a volunteer coordinator for a St. Paul-based non-profit. Her main priorities will include: investing in education from pre-K to college, improving transportation infrastructure, including roads and public transit, and ensuring Minnesotans have economic security and job opportunities.

“While our state economy is headed in the right direction overall, this can’t be said for everyone, and many Minnesotans continue to struggle,” Rep. Koegel said. “Costs for things like child care, and college continue to jump out of control, our highways remain in poor condition, and access to affordable health care is at risk. We must come together on a bipartisan basis with solutions to these issues to ensure everyday Minnesotans have a secure economic future.”

Prior to session, Rep. Koegel was appointed to the following House committees: Health and Human Services Reform, Transportation and Regional Governance Policy, and the Subcommittee on Childcare Access and Affordability.

Rep. Koegel encourages constituents to reach out to her about any issue. She can be reached by email at rep.erin.koegel@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-5369, and encourages constituents to sign up for periodic email updates at her House website, located at www.house.mn/37a.
