Legislative Update - June 29, 2017

Thursday, June 29, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

I hope summer is treating you and your family well. Here is an update from the State Capitol.

Home Improvement Assistance

If you are looking to address health, safety, or accessibility concerns in your home, help may be available from Anoka County. The county administers a pair of home improvement loan programs at 0% interest with deferred payments for residents under certain income amounts. The Minnesota Housing Home Rehabilitation Loan Program and Anoka County Community Development Block Grant Home Rehabilitation Loan Program are available for owner-occupied single-family detached homes, duplexes, condominium units, town homes or manufactured homes. For more information, visit AnokaCounty.us/cd or call 763-324-4650.

2017 New Laws

With July 1 being the start of the state’s fiscal year, several new laws become effective that date. Perhaps most notably of these is the repeal of the ban on Sunday liquor sales, long awaited by many. The nonpartisan House Public Information Services Office has a comprehensive guide to these new laws, which you can see here.

Happy Independence Day

Whether you plan to stick around home, or perhaps head out of town to the lake, I hope you are able to enjoy a safe and fun 4th of July holiday. Our area offers plenty of opportunities for excitement, including the Coon Rapids 4th of July Community Celebration; you can find details here. If you’re in Blaine, don’t miss the fireworks display from the National Sports Center.

I plan to be out and about in the community this summer, and I hope I get a chance to visit with you. Please continue to contact me with your thoughts and ideas, or if I can ever be of assistance. It’s an honor to represent you at the Capitol.
Sincerely,

Erin Koegel

State Representative
