RELEASE: Rep. Koegel statement on the new budget forecast

Tuesday, March 1, 2022

ST. PAUL – On February 28, officials from Minnesota Management and Budget released an updated budget forecast which projects a $9.25 billion state budget surplus for the current biennium. The analysis does not incorporate inflationary costs or the various impacts of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

Rep. Erin Koegel (DFL – Spring Lake Park) issued the following statement:

“After two challenging years, this economic forecast is terrific news for Minnesota and proves we are on track to economic recovery. But at a time when seniors, students, and families are still struggling with the long-term effects of the pandemic, we have more work to do.

“We are still in a period of uncertainty, with an ongoing global pandemic and the recent Russian military invasion of Ukraine. This surplus will allow the legislature to make critical investments to education, childcare, family leave, and more, to allow everyone to thrive.”
