LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM

REP. JEREMY MUNSON - DISTRICT 23B

Friday, Sept 17th, 2021 -- Biden’s Executive Orders

Less than two months ago, President Biden declared our “Independence” from COVID. Yesterday you would have thought it was May of last year listening to his speech announcing new mandates for federal workers and companies with over 100 employees to get vaccinated or face fines. Those overreaching mandates affect nearly 80 million federal employees and contractors who will not have an option to test out. It will also mandate that almost 17 million healthcare facility workers get vaccinated or face weekly testing. The fines can range up to $14,000 per violation.  Biden's speech was littered with divisive messages trying to justify the left's hatred for the unvaccinated, for those with medical allergies, or a history of adverse reactions to vaccines, and those who have natural immunity. Attempting to make them further social outcasts until the social and economic pressure is too high to ignore. This is the categorical feature of a bully.

Most shocking was Biden's complete disregard for the 10th amendment and his use of federal authority to force Governors to his whim. This is not how our country was designed to operate. Our constitution says explicitly that all powers herein not granted to the federal government rest with the states. Like Walz, and his attempts to govern unilaterally, we can defeat this, but we can’t do it alone. This past year I introduced legislation - HF1330 -  which would hold vaccine manufacturers accountable for any side effects that appear later. The federal government conveniently passed legislation preventing the manufacturer from being held liable for any medical issues that arise down the line. The unspoken reality is that by mandating the vaccine, Biden just put that Burden on the Backs of thousands of small business owners.

To stop these executive orders, I authored legislation - HF2157 - which would nullify any unconstitutional Federal Executive Orders that deal with:

(1) pandemics or other health emergencies;

(2) the regulation of natural resources, including coal and oil;

(3) the regulation of the agriculture industry;

(4) the use of land;

(5) the regulation of the financial sector as it relates to environmental, social, or

governance standards; or

(6) the regulation of the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Our forefathers declared their independence from the British for violating their inalienable rights bestowed to them by their creator, not by anyone man. Biden's new Executive orders fly in the face of everything we have ever fought for this simple idea of Liberty. That one shouldn't hurt people or take their things. The President could use a reminder about that right about now.

The constitutional conservatives in St Paul are in the minority, and legislation addressing executive overreach has not received a hearing. Several lawsuits are being filed to address these latest executive orders, and we pray for an outcome that supports our Constitution.
