Legislative Update - Don’t forget to RSVP for Tuesday’s “Donuts with Dan”

Dear Granite City Neighbors, 

The 2024 Legislative Session begins in just 10 days! Before I start spending more time in St. Paul, I want to make sure you have the opportunity to touch base with me on the issues you care about. You’re invited to join me for delicious donuts and quality conversations at my upcoming “Donuts with Dan” office hours this Tuesday, February 6, at the Great River Regional Library, starting at 4pm.

If you plan on stopping by, I ask that you please RSVP at christopher.olendorf@house.mn.gov with “Donuts with Dan” in the subject line so I can give every person and issue the time they deserve. I also need to make sure I get enough donuts!

Bringing a Medical School to St. Cloud

Rural America is experiencing a healthcare access crisis that needs action now. While 20% of the U.S. population lives in rural communities, only 11% of physicians practice in rural communities. That’s why I introduced legislation this week to fund $12.9 million of capital improvements for the University of Minnesota Medical School Campus on the CentraCare Health System Campus in St. Cloud.

Medical students who come from rural areas are more likely to practice in rural areas, and those who receive training in a rural area are three-times (!) more likely to practice in a rural area.

This medical school plans to enroll 24 students in 2025, and 80-96 students as the program develops. By bringing a medical school to St. Cloud, we can better ensure rural Minnesotans have access to quality healthcare providers!
