Legislative Update - July 16, 2020

Thursday, July 16, 2020

Dear neighbors,

I hope this finds you well and staying safe and healthy.

The Legislature reconvened for a special session on Monday. In the House, we’re working on a number of issues that Minnesotans have asked us to address. Ensuring critical services can continue during the pandemic is a top priority. We’re working on several COVID-19 relief and recovery measures, such as legislation to support disability services providers, to make sure Minnesotans can access the support they need to weather this storm.

We hope to pass a strong Jobs and Local Projects or “bonding” bill that funds priorities like clean water, roads and bridges, higher education, parks and trails, and more. Investing in infrastructure strengthens communities and creates good-paying jobs. This legislation would benefit our entire state and give the economy a boost at a critical time. We’re also working on police accountability and criminal justice reforms. We need to find commonsense solutions to ensure that all Minnesotans can feel safe in their communities.

Housing Assistance for Minnesotans

As rent and mortgage payments continue to come due, many Minnesotans are struggling to maintain secure housing. On Tuesday, Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan announced that $100 million of funding from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act will be used for housing assistance. These funds will help support Minnesotans during the pandemic and prevent evictions and homelessness. Minnesotans will be able to apply for assistance with local administrators in early August. You can find more details here.

Stay in Touch

Rep. Ginny Klevorn and I hosted a virtual town hall on Wednesday. Thank you to all who attended! I appreciate the thoughtful questions you brought and your dedication to our community.

Town Hall

This will be my last legislative update for awhile, as legislators can’t use state resources for unsolicited communications during an election period. While I won’t be able to send these emails until after the November election, I’ll continue sharing news and resources on Facebook. You can like or follow my page here.

I’m still available to answer questions and discuss issues that are important to our community. Please don’t hesitate to email me at rep.patty.acomb@house.mn or give me a call at 651-296-9934.

I hope you and your family have a great summer. It’s an honor to serve as your state representative.

Sincerely,

Patty Acomb
State Representative
