SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House passed HF2442, the 2025 Energy Budget bill, authored by Representative Patty Acomb (DFL-Minnetonka). The legislation protects Minnesota’s 100% Carbon-Free Energy by 2040 Law, and continues to promote proven clean energy sources, lower costs for families, and support high-paying clean energy jobs. The bill passed with a vote of 112-21.
“Minnesota’s clean energy policies are working, and this budget rejects Republicans’ efforts to take us backwards,” said Rep. Acomb. “At a time when the federal government is turning its back on clean energy, Minnesota has remained a national leader because of our work these past few years. House DFLers fought to protect the Carbon-Free by 2040 Law because we know that a cleaner energy system ensures lower costs, more resiliency, and a brighter future for all Minnesotans.”
The Energy Budget bill funds the Department of Commerce Division of Energy Resources and the Public Utilities Commission. HF2442 keeps government agencies funded as they do critical work building a cleaner and more resilient grid, helping working Minnesotans afford their energy, and fostering innovation in the renewable energy sector.
A recent report shows that Minnesota is ranked #1 in the Midwest for energy efficiency, the majority of our energy is carbon-free, and we are hitting record lows in carbon emissions. This Energy Budget bill protects Minnesota's progress and keeps us on track to be 100% carbon-free by 2040.
