Special Session Update - Environment Bill

Friday, May 24, 2019
Good night, my friend!!

We are now working on the Environment Finance Bill on the House floor. Chair Rick Hansen from Dakota County worked extremely hard on this bill and I'm proud to vote for it. It passed 84 to 43.

I stopped at HyVee before coming to St Paul today...and got provisions to last through the night. It looks like we are going to plow through and finish all of the bills tonight. We have fruit, veggies, pop tarts, candy, chex mix, and more.

The past four years, the legislature has not continued to work on environmental issues in Minnesota. This year is very different. The Environment Committee did incredible work in many areas:
  • Addressing Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) - a nasty prion (a highly contagious protein) that kills wild and farmed deer. This is a major win for hunting.
  • Establishes grants for cities to treat and prevent Emerald Ash Borer. (EAB was just found today in Minnetonka)
  • Promotes underserved kids the opportunities to get outside
  • Protects pollinators
  • Invests in research, treatment, and inspections for Aquatic Invasive Species

PS: The bill also names the Rusty Patch Bumble Bee as the Official Minnesota Bee. Here is info on the endangered bee.

PPS: We are now back in recess. :|
