Update from Rep. Tabke: Extension of the ‘Stay at Home’ Order

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

Tabke

Today, in accordance with recommendations from public health officials, Governor Walz extended the ‘Stay at Home” order to May 4th, along with the order closing public venues. The governor will continue to evaluate businesses that can be excluded from the order as it becomes apparent they can safely operate, like the lawn care and landscaping workers that were exempted today. It’s a decision no one takes lightly, but the data shows that what Minnesotans are doing is working. We’re flattening the curve and buying time for our health care workers to address COVID-19 in a way that will save lives.

Our community continues to do an amazing job of staying home and protecting their neighbors.

Update Stay Home

Remote Transportation Committee Hearing

As we adapt at the Minnesota Legislature, we’re moving our committee hearings online. Today, we held our first remote Transportation Committee hearing. It’s important that an adaptive and functioning government continues during this pandemic, and updating our requirements in relation to transportation should be a part of that. Things are quickly changing for Minnesotans, and proposed legislation authored by Rep. Tabke would provide clarity when it comes to commercial driver’s licenses and vehicle registration, while also ensuring the legislature remains informed.

You can find more information on this and upcoming committee hearings on the House Committees webpage. Due to the nature of the remote committees, if you want to testify, it’s important to notify committee staff in advance. You can watch today’s committee hearing here

Discrimination Helpline

No one deserves to be targeted based on their background. Unfortunately, there has been an increase in instances of discrimination against people of Asian descent in Minnesota and across the country. On Monday, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights launched a new Discrimination Helpline to help protect the civil rights of Minnesotans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Minnesotans who experience or witness discrimination can report incidents by calling 1-833-454-0148 or filling out an online form here.
