Update from Rep. Tabke: Minnesota’s Leadership on COVID-19

Monday, April 20, 2020

Tabke

Our community and state continues to step up and do an outstanding job of adhering to the “Stay at Home” order and slowing the spread of COVID-19. Because of this, Minnesota has become a leader in combating this virus, and our health care professionals are better able to prepare for the peak of cases. With our success, there’s also been a lot of talk about getting Minnesotans back to work and opening our state, but it’s imperative we don’t regress and have all our efforts be for nothing. We’re all working towards the day where things can get back to normal, but we can’t do that until the science is on our side.

Recent news saw the effect of COVID-19 on a Minnesotan who is an Ironman athlete, the closure of a pork plant in Worthington, and what a pathway to reopening could look like. Local institutions like the University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic are also making headlines with their work on delivering the COVID-19 testing that we desperately need, which could play a huge role in our efforts to reopen the state.

Through it all, our work in the Minnesota House continues to focus on putting the health and wellbeing of Minnesotans first. As we continue to adapt to the temporary new normal of COVID-19, we’re talking with businesses on how they can continue to operate without risking the spread of the coronavirus. This was a focus of last Friday’s debate on the House floor, and Majority Leader Ryan Winkler highlighted the need to support our local establishments as much as we reasonably can, with a shout out to Bill’s Toggery! You can watch Majority Leader Winkler’s comments here
