Rep. Tabke applauds Gov. Walz’s proposal for Shakopee Investment

Thursday, January 26, 2023

St. Paul, MN - Today, Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan released their proposal for a $3.3 billion 2023 Infrastructure Plan focused on capital investments in critical projects focused on roads, bridges, water systems, housing and homelessness, and environmental stewardship.

Included in the proposal is an $8.26 million grant for the City of Shakopee to design and construct a regional cultural destination that will allow visitors to experience the Minnesota River. The project includes riverbank stabilization, environmental restoration, and increasing public access to the water.

“Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan are incredible partners in building a better Minnesota, and I thank them for recognizing the importance of this project to Shakopee,” said State Representative Brad Tabke (DFL - Shakopee). “The river is a tremendous asset for our town, but extraordinary storms and erosion from flooding runs the risk of damaging our infrastructure - an issue that will only get more expensive to solve the longer we wait. Today’s recommendation is an important first step in delivering the investment we need.”

The full cost of the project is $16.519 million. More information on the projects recommended by the Governor for funding can be found here
