Rep. Tabke votes for House passage of Driver’s Licenses for All Legislation

Monday, January 30, 2023

St. Paul, MN - Today, the Minnesota House of Representative passed House File 4, the “Driver’s Licenses for All” bill. The legislation improves public safety on Minnesota’s roads by reinstating the ability of undocumented immigrants to take a driver’s exam and obtain a driver’s license. The bill passed the House on a vote of 69-60.

State Representative Brad Tabke (DFL - Shakopee), a co-author of the bill, voted in favor of the legislation.

“Today’s bill would not only make our roads safer, but ensure undocumented Minnesotans once again have the opportunity and responsibility to obtain a driver’s license, as well as the dignity and security that comes with one,” said Rep. Tabke. “We all benefit from roads occupied by licensed drivers, a fact that’s recognized by the law enforcement community with their support for the bill - including the Shakopee Police Chief and Scott County Sheriff. I am proud to cast my vote to bring this long overdue bill one step closer to becoming law.”

The bill is currently moving through the committee process in the Minnesota Senate, and Governor Walz has expressed his intention to sign the bill into law. Video of today’s floor debate can be found on the House Public Information YouTube channel
