Legislative Update - Join Us for a Virtual Town Hall

Hello Friends, 

There’s a lot going on in our community and state right now. I spoke to the impact of the federal government’s actions on Shakopee in my update last week, and on top of all of that, the 2026 Legislative Session begins on February 17. 

To touch base on the needs of our community going into session, and to hear directly from you, I’ll be holding a Virtual Town Hall on Tuesday, January 27, at 7:00pm, and I hope you can make it!

I’m asking our neighbors to RSVP here to receive the Zoom login information, which we’ll share the day of the Town Hall. Let us know if you can join us, and feel free to share any specific topics you’d like us to cover pertaining to the upcoming legislative session. 

I’ll leave you again with important resources for our immigrant neighbors and those who have been impacted by ICE’s unlawful actions:

• Federal Action Reporting Form - Report ICE violations to the Minnesota Attorney General’s office
• Immigration Defense Network - Hotline for ICE sightings.
• Immigration Law Center - Crisis Line.
• American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) - Know your rights information
• Immigration Legal Resource Center - Red Cards - Cards you can print to keep so that you know your rights.

My colleagues in the Senate DFL have put together a powerful and practical immigration resource toolkit. In the House, we have also compiled immigration resources, and they are available for our neighbors in English, Spanish, Somali, and Hmong. 

Regardless of whether you can join us on Tuesday, always feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or ideas you have for Shakopee and Minnesota.
